  • Some more NTFS rights and an exam!

Today we continued studying NTFS rights on a hard drive and we corrected an exercice in which we had to set these NTFS rights to different users on some files and directories. These users could either be standard users or be granted administrator rights.

Today we also had an exam using computers. We had to plug an additionnal hard drive in a H61 chipset based motherboard. Then we had to restore a ghost image located in the second partition of the hard drive to the first one. Of course this hard drive has to be bootable to work and continue the exam.

I won't explain the whole thing as three sheets of paper were requiered to write the exam's questions. Everything should have been done in one hour and a half.

As for me I managed it almost perfectly! So that's a very nice thing just before Christmas! I can go further in this training and succeed!

More Technician.Network to be on this website soon for you to enjoy!

    To be continued...

  • Today's lessons : NTFS rights and English

Today we continued learning about files and directories access on a NTFS hard drive on a Windows based computer.

This afternoon we also had English lessons about technical aspects (vocabulary about computer parts for example) and grammar and vocabulary understanding while watching an English DVD on TV. Our teacher is also known as Andy Pudding when he performs on stage aside his job. You can find a photo of him performing here.

  • The NTFS rights on the rise!

Today we did several things about computers using Windows OS (Operating System). A little bit of diskpart on DOS to manage the hard drives and partitions available in the computer. How to create a bootable DVD using CDBurner software... And the big part : the NTFS (for New Technology File System) rights on files and directories on the computer's hard drive.

Here is a sample of what I noted today concerning this lesson :

"Les droits NTFS (New Technology File System)

NTFS : Réglages (gestion des fichiers NTFS/FAT)

→ Sécurité Droits NTFS Accès aux Fichiers/Dossiers par utilisateur/Groupe

    Group par défaut sur W7

        • GroupeUtilisateursAuthentifiés → GU

        • Système → OS lui-même

        • GA (Groupe Administrateurs) → Admin / jmarc / chef

        • GU → G Utilisateurs membres de groupe

        • (nom_posteutilisateurs ou administrateurs)

    Droits NTFS Autoriser Refuser

    CT (Contrôle Total)

    M (Modification)

    LX (Lecture et eXécution)

A (Affichage du contenu du dossier)

    L ou R (Lecture)

    W (Ecriture)

    M=LXW

Le refus est prioritaire sur autoriser

Utilisateurs authentifiés → Tout sauf CT

    Système → CT

    GA → CT

    GU → LX

Pour vérifier : Groupes dans la Gestion de l'ordinateur

Un utilisateur peut faire partie de plusieurs groupes

L'attribut est prioritaire sur les droits"

Globally it is to be understood that there are different levels of access on files and directories depending on what category of user is consered. Whether you are part of administrator or user group doesn't necessarily grant you the same access on files and directories. You can or cannot either write, read, run or modify a file or directory for example.

Some more information are to be available soon for you to enjoy reading!
